Here's an example of one of the hundreds of submissions Deviant Art had for it's 25 Essential Expressions Challenge. Although this one is a little safe I still think it's solid work. Check out this link to see the many others submitted (though I have no idea why about 90% of the submissions were anime/manga style... booooriiing)

25 Essential Expressions
